Is Harbor Beach gated, and is joining the homeowners association required?
Membership in the Harbor Beach Homeowners Association is voluntary, per Glen Primak, local agent. The association describes guard gatehouses on Harbor Beach Parkway, Haskins Avenue and River Lane, a contracted security company, and City police patrols. Its newsletters say just over half of owners are members. Its 2024 materials say the original deed covenants lapsed in the early 1990s and propose restoring them. Ask the association about current dues, gate staffing hours, security services and the covenant proposal's status.

How do boats get from Harbor Beach to the ocean?
From the canals and Lake Sylvia to the Intracoastal Waterway, then south through the SE 17th Street (Brooks Memorial) bascule bridge, which has 55 feet of clearance at mean high water when closed, to Port Everglades and the inlet. Depths and any interior road bridges vary by canal, so check your own route on a current NOAA chart and a survey.

When does the SE 17th Street bridge open?
Under 33 CFR 117.261(z), it opens on the hour and half-hour. On weekdays other than federal holidays, from 6:50 to 9:10 a.m. and 3:50 to 6:10 p.m., it opens only on the hour. Check the current regulation and any temporary deviations before you go.
Can boats anchor in Lake Sylvia?
As of October 24, 2026, Lake Sylvia is not one of the anchoring limitation areas named in Florida Statutes s. 327.4108; a 2021 bill to add it was not enacted. General state rules on anchoring near docks and marinas apply. Local rules can change, so check with Broward County and the City before you anchor.

Not yet, as far as the City's program page shows.
